Welcome to University Housing and Tripp Hall

Tripp Hall is located on Tripp Circle on the shores of Lake Mendota. The lakeshore path will be conveniently located out your back door. Summer Research students will be housed in singles rooms with air-conditioning. Many rooms will have spectacular views of the lake.

Rooms

Single rooms in Tripp are roughly 14’x10’. Rooms will have a bed, dresser, desk, chair, small refrigerator. Your room will have all bed linen, blankets and pillow. Your sheets can be exchanged weekly at the Tripp desk. Please remember to bring an alarm clock, towels, and a bathrobe. Shared bathroom facilities with private shower stalls are located on each floor and will be designated for one gender. Students will be placed on floors with the same gender.

Phones in your room will be active for local and campus phone calls free of charge. Long distance calls can be made by pre-paid calling cards, phone company calling cards, or as collect calls.

Meals

You will be provided with a meal card when you arrive. This will have the value of 5 breakfasts and 10 dinners on the card for your use throughout the summer in the Liz Waters Hall dining room. Please check the bulletin boards in the hall for the dining room schedule. There is a small kitchen in Tripp Hall as well if you would like to prepare some of your own meals.

Laundry

Laundry is available in the basement of Tripp Hall. Washers and dryers are card activated. The same card that has your meals on it will have laundry access as well. You will need to go to the Tripp desk to load money on your card to do laundry. Washers are $1.50 per load and dryers are free. You can load a minimum of $1.50 on your card at a time. Please plan ahead because refunds are not available for any money left on your card at the end of your stay. When using the washers it is best to load your machine and then swipe your card. There is a 5 minute time limit between swiping the card and starting the machine.

Tripp Desk

The Tripp desk will be your service center. It will be open from 6 am-10 pm daily. Contact the desk if you need room repairs, an extra blanket, an iron, or summer sports equipment. They will also help you with any key troubles or meal/laundry card issues. The Tripp desk is also a US Postal Station. Your incoming mail will be available in the mailbox corresponding to your room at the Tripp desk.

Policies:

• University policy states that all areas, including lounges, hallways, guestrooms and cafeterias are smoke-free. Smoking is allowed outdoors, 25 feet from any building entrance.
• Alcoholic beverages may be consumed by adults of legal drinking age (21 year old) in their rooms only.
• Open coil appliances, such as hot plates, are not allowed.

Two summer resident assistants will be housed in Tripp Hall to assist you in the transition to UW-Madison. They may also have additional policies to follow. Please take time to meet them when you arrive. Linda Mertins will be in 200 Fallows house at 264-0850 and the other RA will be in 200 Bashford house at 264-0860.
